Well… yeah. If you know anything about George R. R. Martin, you probably know where this is headed.
Yep, my second book is delayed. Hopefully not by much. Not Winds of Winter delayed (thankfully!), but enough to make me sigh. Not that I’m comparing my work to A Song of Ice and Fire—that’d be like comparing my sandcastle to the Taj Mahal. 😅
Anyway, I’d forgotten just how long my 3rd short story was when I started the editing process on it. What I thought would take 2 weeks instead took a month. The 4th short story is much the same but slightly shorter. That should be finished before the end of the month. And I’d rather not talk about the 5th short story, haha. I’ll deal with that in October.
For some context, my first book clocked in at 264 pages. Book two? It’s going to be around 350 pages (so far). It’s just a little too much to deal with as I’m editing this myself and having to re-read everything several times.
As for a new release date, I’m aiming for late December. I’m determined to get this book out before the year ends, so keep your fingers crossed for me! Honestly, I’m itching to start writing book three. Writing is the best part of being an author—well, that and holding the finished book in my hands. Everything else? It’s draining the life out of me.
For those not in the know, book 2 consists of 5 novellas set in the past of book 1. It answers questions the reader is left with in book 1, while also setting things up for book 3, which is a continuation of book 1.
I’ll be back next month with a progress update.
Hope you’re all doing well.
